Trevor and I decided to take on a photography class in the Rocks as part of our ‘improve’ our photo goals.
To my surprise, (and delight) my original teacher from Sydney Community College, Tamara Graham was the lead for the day. A small group of us set up to explore lines, texture, shape, form and space during the 3 hours allocated to us.
Now if you were looking for a quick, this is how you move from auto to manual you’d be disappointed, but if you were like us, you would enjoy the simple formulas and technique that can help you lift your composition and creative approach to the pictures you capture.
Obviously a lot of photos were taken over the course of the morning, so I’m going to share my favourite part of the day.
We had the pleasure of meeting a character of the Rocks ‘egon hutch’, who is one of the regulars who inhabit the rocks shopping precint.
Egon is an artist who has been sketching and painting tourists in the Rocks for the past 5 1/2 years. A spritely young man, who obviously enjoys the female form. I asked him how he got all those naked ladies to pose for him and he got a glint in his eyes, smiled and just said ‘yes’!
Travelling from blacktown every day, his morning routine includes his coffee, broadsheet paper and reading it with the assistance of his magnifying glass.
We each had a minute with him to capture what he was about and here are my efforts.
